Bus spotting along the way

Dennis double deckers like those used on Service 904 are very much a minority in Bristol, so it was kismet that I found an opportunity to photograph another example of the breed, one of the East Lancs bodied Arrows transferred from Capital Citybus in London, as I passed through Marlborough Street Bus Station on my way to Brislington.

Northumberland Park East Lancs. bodied Arrow 706 is an unusual vehicle for a First fleet - an East Lancs Lolyne bodied Dennis Trident

Capital Citybus was by far the largest purchaser of the Dennis Arrow, buying 54 of the 73 built. London & Country ordered only 10, while independents took single buses and one was built from new as the Waveney Playbus. R438ULE, new in May 1998, was Capital Citybus 438 and carries an East Lancs Pyoneer H49/27D body. Officially a temporary transfer to Bristol, hence the retention of London red livery, it is also catalogued in FirstGroup's SEMA Voyager classification system as 39038

The Trident is Dennis's low-floor double deck chassis, replacing the Arrow. 706 (W706PHT) is an unusual vehicle for Cityline - an East Lancs Lolyne H49/30F bodied Dennis Trident. Members of the batch have received at least three liveries so far. The first was in corporate colours, displayed at the 1999 Coach & Bus Show, then repainted. Another was specially painted sky blue as a base to contravision vinyls promoting BP low sulphur diesel and toured First group. The rest are in Bristol City Council's Brislington Park and Ride blue livery
